HOW DOES BIONEAT WORK?

The secret to BioNeat’s unmatched cleaning and degreasing performance is in the size and the action of its component molecules. BioNeat has extremely small (colloidal) molecules called “nanoparticles”. These particles are so tiny and so active that they can penetrate the much larger oil and grease molecules. Like miniature jackhammers they can break apart those molecules into water soluble components that contain biodegradable surfactants. WHAT CAN I USE BIONEAT FOR?

FOR REALLY TOUGH JOBS, CAN BIONEAT BE USED AS CONCENTRATE WITHOUT ADDING WATER?

No. BioNeat concentrate will not work effectively unless diluted with water. BioNeat’s nanoparticles require water to be active. Each particle is hydrophilic (attracts water) on one end and hydrophobic (repels water) on the other end. The hydrophobic ends cluster together with those of other particles to form a negatively charged core. The hydrophilic end extends to capture water molecules and is positively charged. This combination forms a very strange molecule that looks much like a sea urchin with little spheres on its spikes. When water is added, these strange looking molecules start to move. With a little agitation (brushing or scrubbing) they begin moving very quickly, breaking down and cleaning up anything in their path. The more water you add, the more active they become. There are three other factors that activate and enhance nanoparticle cleaning action: dwell time, agitation and heat. 1) “Dwell time” is simply the amount of time BioNeat is allowed to sit on a surface after it is applied and before it is wiped or scrubbed off. The longer the dwell time, the more time the nanoparticles have to work their “magic” in dissolving oil, grease and dirt. 2) Using a cloth or scrub brush and/or using a foaming bottle to apply BioNeat Agitates the nanoparticles and makes them more active and powerful. 3) Using warm or hot water agitates and enhances the nanoparticle activity as well.

 

IS BIONEAT TRULY LESS TOXIC?

BioNeat does not contain VOCs, SVOCs/POMs, Biocides, Pyrethroids, PCBs, PAHs, Organophosphates and Phthalates, and is found to be less toxic.

 

WHY DOESN’T BIONEAT HAVE ANY WARNINGS ON ITS LABEL?

Because some of BioNeat’s ingredients are on the Food and Drug Administration’s GRAS (“Generally Recognized as Safe”) List and, no warning label of any kind is required by any Federal, State or Municipal agency.

 

WHY DOESN’T BIONEAT MAKE A LOT OF FOAM? IS IT REALLY CLEANING?

BioNeat is a low sudsing/foaming formula but don’t let that fool you! Even without the suds, BioNeat is still cleaning more effectively than other products that produce lots more foam. Nanoparticles don’t need to show off their strength with foam. They just clean like invisible scrub brushes.

 

DOES BIONEAT NEED TO BE RINSED?

Rinsing BioNeat from most surfaces is not necessary. Leaving a residue is desirable in cases where mechanical removal and suppression of germs and viruses is a concern. However, BioNeat should be used in weak dilutions and rinsed completely from any oil-based surface. Varnished or painted furniture, painted walls, linoleum tiles or any object or surface that should not be exposed to water, like leather, are examples. Also, when using BioNeat on fabric, carpet or upholstery stains, test clean an inconspicuous area first to determine if BioNeat will affect the color of the fabric.

 

IS BIONEAT REALLY BIODEGRADABLE?

BioNeat NTS-1TM contains surfactants. Please note the 2014 biodegradation study was conducted on the formulation with MEA, not the BioNeat NTS-1TM formulation without MEA.

 

IS BIONEAT AN ANTIBACTERIAL?

BioNeat has been laboratory tested and shown to kill bacteria such as E. Coli and Salmonella even at concentrations of 30 parts water to 1 part BioNeat! However, FDA regulations require that any product labeled as an “antibacterial” must, by law, contain a registered pesticide. All registered pesticides are toxic chemicals. In order to maintain absolute nontoxicity, no toxic chemicals of any kind are added to BioNeat just to be able to put the word “antibacterial” on the label. But, BioNeat, as is, however is just as effective as most commercially available antibacterials and is still perfectly safe!

 

HOW CAN BIONEAT-AGTM KILL BUGS BUT NOT HARM PEOPLE?

BioNeat kills many types of insects because it affects their shells (exoskeleton). Because an insect’s exoskeleton is composed of oil-based molecules, BioNeat proprietary nanoparticle action has the same effect on it as it would any other oil or grease molecule. It dissolves it.

 

CAN I USE BIONEAT TO CLEAN AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT/PARTS OR MACHINERY?

BioNeat has been used as a stand-alone surfactant in multiple hydraulic fracturing services. BioNeat is strong enough to remove paraffin and asphaltenes in completions and production applications while being completely non-corrosive and non-toxic. BioNeat has been used for tank farm remediation, SWD's in down hole and pit remediation applications, and kills 99.9% of bacteria whether it is on the surface or downhole. The structure of BioNeat’s nano particle makes it a very strong candidate for EOR operations and water recycling facilities.

 

Use Cases:

Storage Tank Cleaning / Sludge Remediation. The Petroleum companies normal remediation involves plasma cutting the side of the tank and a 7–10-man crew approximately 1-2 weeks physically removing the hardened sentiment and asphaltene byproduct with equipment extracting it in its solid state. Obviously a very costly and laborious process. In the attached document breaks down the customer need and how the implementation of BioNeat re-solubilized the sludge to a point it could be pumped. Saving a tremendous number of resources.

Does BioNeat reduce processing cost of downstream wastewater mixtures?

Enhanced Oil Recovery is a process that increases the amount of crude oil that can be extracted from an oil field. It is usually done by injecting water or gas into a reservoir to increase pressure and force the crude out of the rock.

In terms of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR);  currently industry utilizes a chemical, which BioNeat would replace the toxic and caustic chemicals on market right now.

 

BioNeat is a combination of safer ingredients blended according to a proprietary process. This process produces a chemical reaction creating an extremely active cleaning agent: a submicroscopic, soap-like molecule called a colloidal micelle or nano-particle. Nano-particles are clusters of linear molecules of fatty esters and fatty acids massed together in a spherical shape (micelle).

 

Just like conventional soap molecules, they have a head that attracts water (hydrophilic) on the outside and a tail that repels water (hydrophobic) on the inside. The hydrophobic tails attract each other, forming the interior of a micelle. The hydrophilic poles form the tough outer surface of the micelle.

 

Nano-particles function just like conventional soap and detergent molecules. They emulsify (dissolve) oils and other hydrophobic molecules in water. However, these nano-particles are significantly smaller than conventional soap and detergent molecules. The individual molecules are so small they measure only 4 nanometers in diameter.

 

Oils, greases and other forms of dirt and grime are hydrocarbon molecules and are hydrophobic. Thus, the old saying “Oil and water don’t mix.” When a nano-particle comes in contact with a hydrocarbon molecule, the center of the nano-particle bonds to that similarly hydrophobic hydrocarbon. It disrupts the attraction to other hydrocarbon molecules and to the surface to which it is adhering.

Their tiny size makes them powerful emulsifiers that are more effective than conventional soaps and detergents in dissolving dirt, oil and grease. Due to their size, they have significantly more surface area available to react with oil and water molecules than conventional soap molecules do. This vastly increased ratio of surface area to volume produces surface characteristics that increase the ability of the nano-particles to react with other suspended materials. They reduce the surface tension of water as much as two times more than conventional water-based cleaning formulas and increase the wetting and penetrating properties of any product mixed in the nano-particle solution.

 

When nano-particles are mixed with a sufficient amount of water, the outer hydrophilic shell actively seeks and bonds with water molecules. Each particle is completely surrounded by a thin layer of water molecules. This is how water activates the nano-particles to become so aggressively mobile. When an activated nano-particle comes into contact with a hydrocarbon molecule, the hydrophobic center of the particle bonds to that hydrophobic hydrocarbon molecule (oil, grease, dirt). The activated nano-particle overpowers its attraction to other hydrocarbon molecules and to the surface to which it is attached. The action of a single micelle is multiplied by billions of other micelles. The molecular level emulsification process penetrates highly viscous and sticky materials, lifting them from the surface to which they adhere.

 

The molecules in hydrocarbons and organic compounds often are stuck together in a clump. Nano-particles break apart these clumps to expose each individual molecule so that each target molecule is affected directly and more efficiently. Nano-particle action is like a “micro-jackhammer,” pounding the surface of an organic compound and effectively isolating individual molecules of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds. The attraction of the nano-particle is stronger than the attraction of the hydrocarbon molecule with its neighbor molecules. The individual hydrocarbon molecules are thus made more readily biodegradable.

 

Oil and grease are converted thoroughly into a “nano-emulsion” that cannot re-coagulate to its original state. Conventional surfactants and cleaners merely lift oil from a surface and redeposit it in drains and sewers and waterways. By contrast, the emulsified oils and organic compounds resulting from nano-particle action are separated sufficiently to readily be degraded and digested by bacteria.

 

Using BioNeat products reduces or eliminates the health and environmental hazards of toxic cleaners and the free radicals emitted by them. One container of BioNeat concentrate can replace dozens of hazardous chemical cleaners and solvents, including household, industrial, marine, agricultural, vehicle and boat maintenance, and pet care chemicals. This can offset health hazard-related expenses such as Workman’s Compensation claims, cost of protective clothing, expensive waste containment and disposal procedures and fire insurance. The short- and long-term benefits of using BioNeat products over more toxic conventional cleaners are endless.

Condition:

Two 271,000 Bbls (200 ft diameter) crude oil storage tanks were treated with BioNeat prior to cleaning the tanks for inspection. BioNeat is an EPA certified green, non-toxic, biodegradable product. It is safe for humans and the environment. The BioNeat was used to aid in the removal of the sludge build up in the tanks that could not be pumped because actual volumes of sludge before and after the treatment was not able to be physically measured, visual inspection and customer estimates were used to evaluate the results.

 

Customer Comments:

The Tank Supervisor expressed that he believed the product significantly reduce the amount of sludge present and adequately softened the remaining sludge enabling it to be removed with a hydraulic gear pump. He also stated that not having to remove any of the product with shovels and buckets made the job more efficient reducing the cleaning crew billable hours.

 

Procedure:

Both tanks were pumped as low as possible, and the inspection manway opened for visual inspection. After the visual inspection, the manway was bolted back on, and the tank filled to approximately 10 feet with a light crude oil. BioNeat concentrate was added to a tank truck containing local well water resulting in a 20 percent BioNeat solution. The BioNeat solution was added to the tank and the two propellers were then engaged to agitate the tank.

 

RESULTS

Tank 1:

Visually estimated to have an average of 6 to 8 inches of sludge accumulation prior to the treatment. The 6 to 8 inches is 2,800 to 4,200 Bbls of accumulation. The customer decided to use one tote of the BioNeat concentrate. The treatment fluid was blended in a tank truck and added to the tank. The resulting fluid was a 20% solution of BioNeat totaling 1,375 gallons.

 

The propellers were engaged for approximately eight days and the tank re-opened for visual inspection. The customer's impression was that 1/3 to 1/2 of the sludge was dissolved and removed. The remaining sludge was softened sufficiently to be pushed to a hydraulic gear pump and transferred from the tank. It was also estimated to have reduced the cleaning time by 2or 3days.

 

Tank 2:

Visually estimated to have an average of 8ot 12 inches of sludge accumulation prior to the treatment. The 8ot 12 inches is 4,200 to 5,600 Bbls of accumulation. The customer decided to use two totes of the BioNeat concentrate. The treatment fluid was blended in the tank truck and added to the tank. The resulting fluid was a 20% solution of BioNeat totaling 2,750 gallons. The propellers were engaged for approximately 1 days and the tank re-opened for visual inspection. The customer's impression this time was approximately the same as with tank 1. An estimated 1/3 to 1/2 of the sludge was dissolved and removed. The remaining sludge was softened sufficiently to be pushed to a hydraulic gear pump and transferred from the tank. It was also estimated to have reduced the cleaning time by 3 or 4 days.

 

Conclusions:

Given the small treatment volumes and the use of well water to mix the treatment fluid, the customer viewed these treatments as a success. The treatment volumes used on these two tanks ranged from approximately 0.8% to 1.0% of the sludge volume in tank 1and approximately 1.1% to 1.5% of the sludge volume in tank .2 The treatments are believed to have paid for themselves by just the cleaning time being reduced. What is more, the sludge dissolved and returned to a sellable/usable product is a big win. Using the 1/3 estimate, 900 to 1400 Bbls in Tank 1 and 1400 to 1850 Bbls in Tank 2 were reclaimed. We are confident that a treatment of 3.0% of the sludge volume and possibly some procedure modifications will be a highly effective treatment to reclaim the sludge and dramatically reduce cleaning time.

 

Recommendations:

BioNeat recommends using 3.0% of the sludge volume for the treatment volume. In addition, it is preferred the fluid be mixed with distilled or RO water for best results. The BioNeat mixture will react with the hardness in the water consuming some of its effectiveness. If possible, we believe that adding the treatment fluid to the tank with just enough oil to cover the sludge and allowing a day or two soak time prior to floating the roof and engaging the propellers, the results would be improved.
